Alex’s Story
Shift Your Perspective – Get Your Confidence Back
Hi, I’m Alex Fleming, mindset coach of with over 15yrs of experience, helping you rediscover the joy of riding by changing how you see the world.
My mission is to reignite the child-like freedom you once felt with your horse. My vision? A community where owners driven by love, not money, feel empowered to make choices that enrich horses’ lives.
Helping you reconnect with your horse and move together as one inspires me every day. It’s the reason I do what I do.
Experience Shaped My Perception
Horses have always been my happy place. At 10, I worked Saturdays at the local riding school. At 16, I got my first horse, Elsa. She was everything I’d hoped for—even surprising us with a foal, Baby Jack. But horses are expensive, and money was tight, so reluctantly, we sold her. Baby Jack became my world, influencing every decision—even deferring university to stay with him. We were inseparable.
At 18, I started working in the racing industry before moving to eventing, training young horses and managing the yard. By 21, I had my own yard, White Horse Equestrian, working with problem horses, managing liveries, teaching at Pony Club, and running clinics. I loved seeing the transformation in riders, so I chose to take my coaching further and make it my focus.
But, one tragic day changed everything. While taking Baby Jack out for a ride, a car hit him. Despite every effort, complications during recovery meant he was put to sleep. Losing him wasn’t just the loss of a beloved companion—it shattered my confidence and sense of identity. Driven by perfectionism, I’d pinned my self-worth on a successful equine career. But horses, once my sanctuary, became a source of extreme anxiety. Negative self-talk made things worse.
Consumed by guilt for pursuing my expensive and ‘ridiculous’ horsey dream, I spiralled. One day, while riding, I had a panic attack and realised I couldn’t carry on. In twelve months, I’d gone from working with any horse that came into my yard to not wanting to ride. I’d lost my livelihood and career. I felt utterly lost.
I turned to therapy but found no one who understood both mindset and equestrian life. Determined to recover, I retrained—studying psychology, NLP, hypnosis, and timeline therapy—healing myself and rebuilding my bond with horses. Just before lockdown, I fell off a horse and broke my back. I recovered quickly and got back in the saddle—proof that shifting my mindset and focusing on my response rather than trying to change everything around me—had strengthened my resilience. I’d changed my life and could help others change theirs, too.
Peering into the Shadows
Early in my career, I worked in small, family-run yards where every decision prioritised horses’ welfare. However, as I moved into larger institutions, the focus shifted to results and profit. Horses were treated like kings—with physios and meticulous care—but denied freedom, turnout, or friends. Those who didn’t perform were retired or put down. I felt like it was a conveyor belt of horses where money outweighed well-being, and animals were ridden until they broke. I was saddened by what I saw.
I also saw coaches, influenced by ingrained practices, using outdated methods—often unaware they were wrong. Riders pigeonholed into one approach, desperate to get things right, were criticised for being imperfect. Left confused and underconfident, they were kept reliant on coaches instead of being given the tools to succeed on their own. This high-pressure environment and unhealthy dynamic didn’t sit right. Something had to change
Life Through a Different Lens
When riders come to me—whether amateurs, professionals, or equestrian business owners—they share a deep love for horses and want to reconnect, but the enjoyment’s gone. Instead, overwhelm and self-doubt create a gap between what they want to achieve and what they feel capable of. Guilty for not riding, they worry about letting down their horse, families, and themselves—especially with emotional and financial investments at stake. These struggles often spill into other areas of life, creating stress in relationships and careers.
Blending practical training with mindset coaching, my programmes focus on increasing confidence, emotional strength, and resilience, helping riders turn their intentions into action. The Academy provides group coaching and training on mindset topics, such as shifting perception and managing nerves. One-to-one coaching offers tailored support for individual challenges, while hypnosis targets specific fears, like anxiety over a tricky jump. Confidence Camp creates a nurturing space for riders to build self-esteem and thrive in a supportive community.
By clearing emotional blocks, overcoming fears, and aligning the conscious and subconscious mind—so their mindset supports their actions—riders gain the confidence to follow through on their physical ambitions. They feel like themselves again and rekindle their love of riding. This renewed confidence empowers them beyond the saddle—strengthening relationships, boosting careers, and achieving personal goals they once thought were out of reach.
Your Vision, Your Way
Riders need the space to grow without judgment or criticism and make decisions based on their needs—not others’. Progress can be messy, and that’s perfectly OK. My coaching creates a supportive space where riders can trust their instincts and do what feels right. If it works for them and their horse, that’s what matters.
When riders stop comparing themselves to others and let go of industry expectations, they become more comfortable in their own skin and self-reliant. They find their voice, walk their own path, and ride freely, no longer held back by nerves. The result? A deeper bond, built on respect and understanding—moving as one with their horse, their heart, and returning to their happy place.

It’s time to take back control, step into the saddle, and feel that loving connection again. It starts with one simple step: getting started on your journey.
